During the months of the hospital?s closure members of the Auxiliary worked shoulder-to-shoulder with staff, board members and volunteers from the greater community to ready the hospital for reopening. They painted, raised money, scrubbed floors, talked to friends and neighbors about the reopening, gave testimony at City Council meetings, inventoried supplies and equipment, stuffed envelopes and answered phones. Every activity strengthened the Auxiliary members commitment to our hospital. Since the reopening in June 2001, Auxiliary volunteers are back interacting with patients, patient families and visitors as well as hospital staff. They assist the nursing staff on patient floors, perform administrative functions, greet visitors and escort patients and families. Volunteer opportunities exist in the Gift Shop, Clerical Pool, Information Desk, Inpatient Transportation and Patient Relations. Volunteers receive training and are assigned a job suited to individual preference and schedule.
